Urbis Submission to the Review of the Planning Act

Urbis welcomes the opportunity to make a submission in response to the draft Bill to Modernise Victoria’s Planning Act.

Urbis has considerable knowledge, experience and understanding of the functioning of the planning system through our work with commercial property owners, developers, retailers, and government agencies. With a number of disciples including urban planning, retail economics, market and consumer research, urban design, and social planning, Urbis is well positioned to provide the Government with constructive feedback in relation to the review of the Planning and Environment Act.

Urbis considers the review of the Act is timely, and whole-heartedly supports the intent of the review to streamline and increase efficiencies of the Planning Process. We consider that it will bring greater certainty to the development industry in relation to process.

In particular we welcome the review of the planning scheme amendment process and the recognition of projects of State significant.

Urbis is supportive of the expanded role of the Department of Planning and Community Development in these processes, which will encourage an efficient use of resources and bring a more consistent and fair approach to development across municipal boundaries.
